I’ve had a spoilt and privileged upbringing, being exposed to many carving projects my parents were involved from a young age, growing up, in, on and around mahi whakairo I’ve gained a deep appreciation, understanding and love for the different forms of toi whakairo.
I’ve been fortunate to be involved in and learning different aspects of mahi whakairo including; tarai waka - canoe carving, whakairo raakau – wood carving, whakairo wheua - bone carving, and my most recent obsession to whakairo kiri, through taa moko – using tattoo machines and making uhi - traditional tattooing chisels and over the past year.
I am the owner of Kaahu Taiao Ltd for my passion in restoring our whenua, wai and taonga species and now set up Kaahu Inc for Whakairo Raakau, Whakairo Wheua and now Whakairo Kiri.
